February Book Haul

Happy Monday everyone! I hope you are all having a wonderful President's Day today, especially if you did not have work- luck you! It has been unusually warm here in Chicago for the past few days, think 50 to 60 degrees,  but hey, I'm not complaining! I'm enjoying every bit of sunshine I can get.

In trying to keep my post for today in tune with the holiday and the weather, I decided to talk about my recent book haul for February. Some of you already know that I'm an avid reader and listener. It's my favorite past time and my other vice aside from my makeup addiction. I have to be honest and tell you though that I really did not get to read a lot in February. My goal is to read/listen to 1-2 books a week, and as of yesterday, I've only finished listening to my first book for this month! It's been a hectic month to say the least, but I've finally rounded up my books, and I am back in the game. I'm currently listening to my second audiobook of the month, and I'm already halfway through it!

Anyway, I've gotten a Book of the Month Club subscription at the end of December last year, and so far I've been enjoying the book choices they have. This month, I couldn't help but pick more than one book for the month of February! I've also gotten a few productivity books from Amazon that came in a couple of weeks ago and I'm excited to read them in the following months. I haven't read the books yet, and so I've added some short reviews/overview for each book from others who have read it or from their descriptions,  as I want you to at least get an idea of what each book is about.

First let's start with the books I got from my BOTM subscription:

  • The Possessions by Sara Flanner Murphy - "The Possessions channels many different forms: it’s a mystery, a romance, a ghost story, and an erotically-charged thriller. It’s a compelling novel that mixes grief and heartache with danger and mystery. It’s a fantastical examination of loneliness and the exploitation of human emotions." Liberty Hardy
  • Behind Her Eyes by Sarah Pinborough - "Behind Her Eyes begins as domestic thrillers often do: at a breaking point between a husband and wife. [...] There is, of course, more to the story – much more – which I won’t mention at this point. But I will say that the tension builds steadily, page after page. Behind Her Eyes stumped and electrified me. What I failed to see is that Sarah Pinborough is playing an entirely new game. This novel isn’t just a who-dun-it. This novel is a what-the-fuck-even-got-dun." Cristina Arreola
  • All The Ugly and Wonderful Things by Bryn Greenwood - "All the Ugly and Wonderful Things is the ultimate noir fairy tale, with Wavy as the wounded beauty, small and blonde, abused in body and spirit, and Kellen as the beast, big and hulking but just as broken. The evil father, wasted mother, and other family members, all have their roles to play - and they all impart truths that move the book along at a fast and mesmerizing pace." Nina Sankovitch

As for my Amazon order:

  • Sapiens: A Brief History of Humankind by Yuval Noah Harari - "From a renowned historian comes a groundbreaking narrative of humanity’s creation and evolution—a #1 international bestseller—that explores the ways in which biology and history have defined us and enhanced our understanding of what it means to be human. "
  • So Good They Can't Ignore You by Cal Newport - "In this eye-opening account, Cal Newport debunks the long-held belief that "follow your passion" is good advice.  Not only is the cliché flawed-preexisting passions are rare and have little to do with how most people end up loving their work-but it can also be dangerous, leading to anxiety and chronic job hopping."
  • The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck by Mark Manson - "There are only so many things we can give a f**k about so we need to figure out which ones really matter, Manson makes clear. While money is nice, caring about what you do with your life is better, because true wealth is about experience. A much-needed grab-you-by-the-shoulders-and-look-you-in-the-eye moment of real-talk, filled with entertaining stories and profane, ruthless humor, The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F**k is a refreshing slap for a generation to help them lead contented, grounded lives."
  • Shoe Dog by Phil Knight - "In this candid and riveting memoir, for the first time ever, Nike founder and board chairman Phil Knight shares the inside story of the company’s early days as an intrepid start-up and its evolution into one of the world’s most iconic, game-changing, and profitable brands."
  • The Personal MBA by Josh Kaufman - "True leaders aren't made by business schools - they make themselves, seeking out the knowledge, skills, and experience they need to succeed. Read this book and you will learn the principles it takes most business professionals a lifetime of trial and error to master."
  • The War of Art by Steven Pressfield - "Bestselling novelist Steven Pressfield identifies the enemy that every one of us must face, outlines a battle plan to conquer this internal foe, then pinpoints just how to achieve the greatest success. The War of Art emphasizes the resolve needed to recognize and overcome the obstacles of ambition and then effectively shows how to reach the highest level of creative discipline."

I am so excited to get around to reading these books! While I did not explicitly plan it out, I'm happy that there's a good mix of genres in this haul, Hopefully I'll be able to read most of them this year! Anyways, are there any books you've been so interested to read? Or do you have any book recommendations? Let me know below!
