My Top Summer Suncare Products
As some of you have experienced, this Summer season has been off to an odd start. Not only has it been delayed, but it’s also been a bit off too. One day, it’s nice and sunny at 75 degrees, the next day we’re closer to 50 degrees and cloudy. Then there’s the occasional sunny rainshowers that make me feel like I’m somewhere tropical like Hawaii than the Midwest . It wasn’t until recently that we have finally gotten consistent days and, even weeks of sunny, hot weather. And while I’m suffering through all the sweating, I am enjoying every bit of the sun as I am able to, albeit in a healthy manner.
Many of my friends know that I am a big sun worshipper and love swimming and being by the beach or pool. I have a confession to make though, I used to be very bad at protecting my skin from the Sun and its harmful UV rays. I know, that’s no buena! However, I’ve never really liked the idea of applying sunscreen constantly nor did I like their scent. For my face, I’ve always had a hard time with most face sunscreen because I tend to get random bumps after a few days of wearing one and their consistency didn’t sit well on my skin. Don’t even get me started on the flashback and the white cast! As the years went by I learned the importance of sun protection and some serious consequences of sun damage that goes beyond dry skin and wrinkles, like skin cancer. It wasn’t always a consistent effort, and it took me a few years of trying out different products before I found the ones that I actually looked forward to using and consistently used. If you’re like me, and picky with your sunscreens, read on for some of my recommendations and why they works so well for me.
Face
Supergoop Unseen Sunscreen SP40 - This was the first sunscreen I wore consistently everyday and applied after I put on my moisturizer. It feels so light on my skin and gives a smoothing finish to my face overall. It almost feels like smoothing over a primer on your skin before applying your foundation and my favorite part is that it’s completely invisible even if I decided to skip foundation altogether.
Supergoop Forever Young Hand Cream with SPF 40 - I get no chip mani regularly and recently noticed that my hands felt dryer and almost wrinklier than the rest of my body. I suspect this might be the result of years and years of putting my hands underneath the UV lamps to cure my no chip polish, although this is unconfirmed. I wanted to make sure that I am being proactive and taking the precaution, and so I’ve decided to look for a hand cream that also had a sunscreen. Of course, Supergoop! just had what I needed. Not only am I keeping my dry hands hydrated, but I’m also protecting it from UV damage. I like to keep this one in my car to make sure that I’m constantly reapplying it, especially when I’ll be outdoors. I also make sure to take it with me when getting my mani done to apply before I start putting my hands under the UV lamps.
Supergoop Defense Setting Mist SPF 50 - The best product to use if you’re lazy or just are horrible at reapplying sunscreen especially on the face. Obviously, I am talking about myself! HA! I mean come on, how exactly were expected to reapply a cream sunscreen on top of makeup? Before, the traditional route has been to use sunscreen powder, but Supergoop has come out of a misting spray that not only protects your skin but also refreshes it! Definitely my favorite alternative to creams and powders for reapplying my sunscreen!
Neutrogena Hydroboost Moisturizing Gel Sunscreen SPF 30/50 - This is a very good alternative for my normal to oily gals who don’t want to put layers of products on their skin every morning. I completely feel you. I love how this products hit two birds with one stone, giving me a decent moisture and it feels completely weightless on my skin. My favorite part? It’s a completely affordable sunscreen that works very well!
Body
Hawaiian Tropic Island Sport Ultra Light Sunscreen SPF 50 - I love this sunscreen so much and I actually look forward to wearing this one whenever I’m at the beach or gonna be under the sun for a long time. I use the cream formulation of this, and I find that it’s very lightweight and smells very goo. It definitely does not have that sunscreen smell to it at all!
Hawaiian Tropic Silk Hydration Weightless After Sun Lotion - This moisturizer is infused with aloe gel and I tend to use it after spending the day at the beach and/or tanning. It soothes my skin from all the sun exposure, replenishes the moisture, and also keeps my skin feeling very smooth!
Hawaiian Tropic Dark Tanning Dry Oil - I don’t always use a tanning oil, and to be quite honest try to avoid using it, but I find that this one is great for when you don’t have a lot of time to be in the sun but would like to accelerate the tanning process.
Up&up Aloe Vera Gel - Alright, we’ve all done it and have gotten a little bit excited to tan and spend some quality tanning time under the sun. This aloe gel from target is amazing for soothing any sunburns! If you want it to feel extra soothing, store it in the fridge so the gel gets cold and becomes cooling too. It’s gonna feel a bit weird applying it as a cold gel at first, especially to your sunburns, but trust me it’ll start feeling very soothing and good after a few seconds of spreading it.
Sol de Janeiro Glow Motion in Copacabana Bronze - Not really a sun care products, but a good alternative to faking some sun exposure while giving your legs and decollete area a shimmering glow! If you want that Insta-worthy bronze goddess on your legs and allover your body, this body glow is amazing to achieve that!
As you can see, I tend to be a big fan of sunscreens from both Supergoop and Hawaiian Tropic and that’s because they’ve formulated their products very well to my liking. You’ll notice that the biggest things to me is that they feel weightless and their scent smells good or at least odorless. What are some of your go to sun care products?
